How to find your saved Wi-Fi password on Windows 11
Open Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi > Manage known networks, click the network, and next to View Wi-Fi security key click View. The password is shown in a pop-up.
For any saved network, you can also run netsh wlan show profile name="NetworkName" key=clear in Terminal and read the Key Content line.
Applies to Windows 11 (current versions). You need to be signed in with an administrator account to reveal passwords. Only do this on your own networks or with permission.
Find the password
Using Settings
- Press Win + I and go to Network & internet > Wi-Fi.
- Click Manage known networks.
- Select the network name.
- Next to View Wi-Fi security key, click View.
Using Control Panel (connected network)
- Press Win + R, type
ncpa.cpland press Enter. - Double-click your Wi-Fi adapter and click Wireless Properties.
- Open the Security tab and tick Show characters.
Using a command (any saved network)
- Right-click Start and choose Terminal (Admin).
- Run
netsh wlan show profilesto list saved networks. - Run
netsh wlan show profile name="NetworkName" key=clear(replace NetworkName). - Look for Key Content under Security settings - that's the password.
If you can't see the password
- No View button in Settings: your Windows 11 version is older - use the Control Panel or command method, or update Windows.
- Key Content is missing: run Terminal as administrator.
- Work or school networks (802.1X/Enterprise) use your account sign-in instead of a shared key, so there's no password to show.
Share Wi-Fi without the password
On Windows 11 you can show a QR code: in the network's page under Manage known networks, use the share/QR option if available. Phones can scan it to join. Alternatively, find the password printed on the router label or in the router's admin page.
Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to reveal my Wi-Fi password?
Yes on your own PC, but don't share screenshots of it. Change the password in your router settings if you think others know it.
Does this work on Windows 10?
The Control Panel and netsh methods do. The Settings View button is Windows 11 only.
Can I see passwords for networks I've never joined?
No. Windows only stores networks you've connected to.
