About DeskHowTo
DeskHowTo publishes short, practical tutorials for everyday software: Excel, Word, Windows, Chrome and Zoom. Each guide answers one question and gets you to the solution quickly. We also cover Mac basics such as freeing up disk space and force quitting apps.
How we write guides
- We follow every step in the current version of the software before publishing.
- When Windows, Mac, web and mobile differ, we show each separately.
- Each guide shows a last updated date, and we revise guides when menus change.
Independence and funding
DeskHowTo is independent and isn't affiliated with Microsoft, Google, Zoom or any other company mentioned. The site is supported by display advertising through Google AdSense; advertisers don't influence our content.
Editorial and update process
- Official documentation first. Each guide starts from the vendor's own documentation (Microsoft Support, Google Help, Zoom Support, Adobe Help) and is then followed step by step in the current version of the app.
- Checked on each platform we name. If a guide covers Windows, Mac, web or mobile separately, each set of steps is checked on that platform. When we can't confirm a platform, we say so instead of guessing.
- Re-checks. Popular guides are re-checked monthly and every guide at least once a quarter, plus whenever a major app update moves menus or renames options.
- Dates you can see. Every guide shows a "Last updated" date at the top and lists the official pages it was checked against.
- Independent. Guides are written and reviewed by the DeskHowTo editorial team; no software vendor reviews or approves them.
