How to allow pop-ups in Chrome for one site

Last updated: · By the DeskHowTo editorial team
Quick answer

When Chrome blocks a pop-up, a pop-up blocked icon appears at the right end of the address bar. Click it, choose Always allow pop-ups and redirects from [site], and click Done. Reload the page.

To manage it in settings: ⋮ > Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Pop-ups and redirects, then add the site under Allowed to send pop-ups and use redirects.

Applies to current Chrome on desktop and mobile. Allowing pop-ups only for the sites that need them (banking, payment pages, school or work portals) is safer than turning the blocker off everywhere.

Allow pop-ups

For one site (desktop)

  1. Open the site that's being blocked.
  2. Click the pop-up blocked icon in the address bar.
  3. Select Always allow pop-ups and redirects from the site, then Done.
  4. Refresh the page and try again.

Add a site in Settings (desktop)

  1. Go to ⋮ > Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings.
  2. Click Pop-ups and redirects.
  3. Next to Allowed to send pop-ups and use redirects, click Add, enter the site address (for example [*.]example.com) and click Add.

Android

  1. Open Chrome and tap ⋮ > Settings > Site settings > Pop-ups and redirects.
  2. Turn the switch on to allow pop-ups, or tap a site under exceptions to change just that site.

iPhone and iPad

  1. Open Chrome, tap ... > Settings > Content Settings > Block Pop-ups.
  2. Turn Block Pop-ups off, or open the site and tap Always show when Chrome reports a blocked pop-up.

Still not opening?

  • An ad blocker or privacy extension may be blocking it - pause the extension for that site.
  • The site may open a new tab that Chrome treats as a redirect - make sure redirects are allowed too.
  • Your organisation may manage pop-up settings (look for Managed by your organization in the menu).

Block pop-ups again

Go back to Site settings > Pop-ups and redirects and select Don't allow sites to send pop-ups or use redirects, or remove the site from the allowed list.

Pop-ups appearing even with the blocker on

Notification spam isn't pop-ups. Check Site settings > Notifications and remove sites you don't recognise. If ads appear everywhere, review your extensions at chrome://extensions and remove ones you didn't install.
